On January 29, 2018, the 7th China Charity Festival was held in Beijing. This is the most influential annual event in the field of national public welfare charity. The corals protect public welfare projects sponsored by shenzhen institute of guangdong ocean university (SZIGOU) won the award of 2017 annual green model with outstanding contributions in the field of Marine conservation and social influence. This is the only gold award for environmental protection in China Charity Festival.

Liao baolin, director of the coral conservation center of shenzhen research institute of guangdong ocean university and director of the coral welfare fund management committee, was invited to attend the China charity festival.  he said, Since 2007, we have been working on the coral conservation project for 11 years, from the beginning of the "unknown" to now "striking",  which is inseparable from the strong support of the government, the painstaking efforts of researchers and the tireless efforts of nearly 10,000 volunteers.

The guangdong reef check in 2017 has just concluded, which was organized by Guangdong Provincial Oceanic and Fisheries Department and undertaken by SZIGOU.  In 2007, guangdong province introduced the world's largest coral reef monitoring program, the reef check, which was attended by divers volunteers and scientists. After 11 years of development, the activity have established a survey team with more than 20 scientists, more than 1,000 professional diving volunteers and more than 5,000 volunteers. The census has accumulated a wealth of first-hand data on coral reefs for government decision-making and research, and has raised public awareness and participation in coral reef conservation efforts.
